8 Minutes in the Morning: Another View

 

8 Minutes in the Morning by Jorge Cruise (author of 3 Hour Diet) is a fitness and weight loss plan targeted at those who don't have the time or don't wish to make a major commitment. His basic concept is that building muscle is the most important variable and that it can be done without the special equipment at health clubs. All you need is "8 minutes every morning," using a set of dumbbells and alternating resistence movements. The food portion of the program is more-or-less balanced nutrition which follows the food guide pyramid (which is universally recommended by doctors and nutritionists), but also includes some alternative theories such as flaxseed oil consumption and some curious fear of dairy products.

None of this quirky advice seems dangerous, it just seems a bit hokey. His heart and advice is clearly in the right place by recommending exercise and healthier eating, but telling people they can lose weight "easy" and get physically fit with 8 minutes per day of mild free weight workouts is much more of a marketing sales pitch than rational diet and fitness advice. This is another in an endless line of diets whose focus is on not intimidating potential clients and customers in order to sell them on easier weight loss. There is no such thing as fitness in 8 minutes per day.

Long-term sustainable weight loss comes from a more comprehensive commitment and a fundamental change in lifestyle to healthier eating and regular exercise of more than 8 minutes per day.
