American Heart Association No Fad Diet Review

The American Heart Association (AHA) is an institution that works to provide the public with information about health issues. Their response to the diet craze with all it's scam plans is their "No-Fad Diet."

AHA's concept is called "Circles of Success" and has three main tenets:

1. Eat Well: Negative thoughts use too much energy. Replace them with positive thoughts that are healthy. Identify your habits that make lifestyle change difficult and deal with them.
2. Think Smart: Understand your body. The AHA provides a calculator and BMI chart to identify what your optimum daily caloric intake should be. Reduce food consumption and keep a journal to track what and how much you're eating. Eat in moderation from the four food groups each day, including plenty of fresh produce, whole grains and lean protein.
3. Move More: incorporate more movement into your day. Run with the dog, walk during lunch breaks, go to the gym or chose the stairs over the elevator. Whatever the choice, make it something you enjoy so that you're less likely to quit.

The "No Fad Diet" is a valiant attempt by the American Heart Association to effect real change in the lives of the obese. It's hard to find much wrong in such a sensible approach to weight loss. My only real issue is the realization that most people already know these basics of long-term sustainable weight loss, they just chose to take the short cuts of the fad diets that are destined to fail. The Good Guys (like the AHA) in this industry of scam artists and pill pushers need to do a much better job of fostering the development of what people lack, motivation to do it the right way.
