The Atkins Diet Works! My opinion

Pro Review: Atkins Diet Works

I am tired and annoyed of finding myself in the position of defending my choice to use the Atkins diet to lose weight. Articles regarding any type of dieting rarely mention other factors that help a person lose weight.

I began the Atkins diet June 1, 1999, after reading the entire book. I weighed about 185 pounds. At the end of the first 2 weeks, I had lost 12 pounds. I had been irregularly exercising and found an aerobics video I enjoyed doing, so I added it to my "program". I continued to lose weight. I changed other bad habits, such as restricting snacking/eating after 6 p.m. I continued to lose weight. By Sept. 15, 1999, I had lost my original goal of 25 pounds and was now at the same weight I had been before I became pregnant with my only child 16 years before.

I decided to continue on my diet to reach my optimum weight for my height, age, etc --150 pounds. I hadn't weighed so little since high school. Continuing to exercise and watch my diet, I was successful and reached my goal in January 2000. I have maintained my current weight of 147 pounds since that time.

People yo-yo on their weight for many reasons. Not enough exercise and poor eating habits. The majority of people who are unsuccessful at dieting change their eating habits and exercise habits for short periods of time and claim a diet doesn't work.

If articles such as yours, and all other forms of media, were to provide readers/viewers with a more well-rounded, nonbiased report, people such as myself who have been successful wouldn't be put into the position of having to defend our successes. We could simply share them.
