The Belly Fat Cure Review

Another book from celebrity fitness trainer Jorge Cruise (8 Hours in the Morning). This time, he entirely contradicts his last bestseller, The 3 Hour Diet: How Low-Carb Diets Make You Fat and Timing Makes You Thin, where he advocated the time-tested strategy of portion control, calories-in versus calories-out approach. You see, the Belly Fat Cure says you should eat the foods you love as long as you minimize your intake of sugar and processed carbohydrates, thus controlling your insulin levels. Sound familiar -Atkins Diet, The Zone, Sugar Busters, etc- . Cruise now says he was just wrong before.

The Belly Fat Cure consists of protein, fats, and vegetables and complex carbs. Processed foods, sugar and white flour are to be mostly removed from your diet. Here is a sample menu:

  • Breakfast: 3 eggs, 2 slices buttered toast
  • Snack: Handful of walnuts
  • Lunch: Tuna salad on one piece pita bread
  • Snack: 1 cup cottage cheese with honey
  • Dinner: Grilled chicken or steak, sautéed veggies and 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 8-10 glasses of water a day.

Most fresh fruits are considered "belly bad" because their natural levels of sugar. Because of their low sugar content, blackberries and blueberries are allowed. Cruise recommends getting your nutrients from vegetables instead.

Each day, dieters are allowed no more than 15 grams of sugar from six servings of "smart," fiber-rich complex carbs . Cruises "Carb Swap" system is meant to regulate the amount of good carbs versus bad carbs so you can get your insulin levels under control. Fat and protein don’t increase insulin levels, so there's no need to limit these nutrients, Cruise argues.

It's at this point, once again, I get so bored and exhausted by another weight loss guru selling low carb, insulin resistance, glycemic non-sense as if it was a science-based rational strategy for successful weight loss. Low carb diets are not healthy. There is universal agreement among mainstream medical science, health professionals and registered dietitians. Every day another low carb plan like the Belly Fat Cure comes to light in order to fuel the inexhaustible appetite for the overweight public to find some excuse to avoid a portion-controlled, balanced diet with exercise.
