Diet Herbs: Do they work?

 

There are a large number of herbs used in diet pills and weight loss supplements. The most prominent are synthetic chromium, cayenne, hydroxycitric acid, pyruvate, l-carnitine, guarana (caffeine), ma huang (ephedra), hoodia gordonii, and garcinia campogia. They act as either a "natural" fat burner or fat blocker. Translating that into English: increase metabolism by increasing heart rate and blood pressure or stopping food from being digested and excreted during lengthy bathroom visits.

The whole concept of herbs and herbal supplements is nonsense in my opinion. There is a reason mainstream producers of over the counter and prescription drugs don't peddle this stuff despite its potential windfall profits: it's bad business. The products all have unpleasant side-effects and the long-term failure rates are nearly universal. And on top of all that, they are expensive.
