The popular, hippie-esque natural food products brand Kashi, morphed into a faddish weight loss plan a'la the Special K Diet.
The Kashi GoLean Diet is a nearly all-Kashi products affair of five meals throughout the day. Breakfast is a serving of either GoLEAN Crunch or regular Kashi GoLEAN whole grain cereal, tossed with soy or skim milk. Lunch is a protein shake - Kashi GoLean powder from a can mixed with soy milk or water. For a snack you're allowed to choose from the various flavors of the GoLEAN protein and fiber chewy snack bars. For dinner you're allowed a "real meal", albeit as healthy a one as you can stand - but sure enough if you don't have time to cook you can grab a Kashi frozen dinner. These are nutritionally equivalent to Lean Cuisines, etc., with 350-400 calories per serving, protein, fiber and 10 grams of fat or less.
Is it a good plan for weight loss? Absolutely. Kashi foods are nutritious, low calorie, relatively inexpensive and available everywhere - and a plan like this is easy to follow.
Exercise regularly while you're on this diet and you're sure to see weight drop off in good measure - but we regard this plan as an entree (as it were) into healthy eating, weight loss and weight maintenance for life. A good start. (Because there's no way you can eat Kashi foods exclusively, indefinitely, without becoming bored out of your mind.)
