Morning Banana Diet

The Morning Banana Diet was created in Japan by the wife of prominent pharmacist Hitoshi Watanabe. The diet "plan" allowed Mr. Watanabe to lose 37 pounds. The diet's popularity spread via online social networking sites (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter) and was eventually featured in magazines and television reports, which led to a book deal. This classic fad diet actually led to a shortage of bananas in Japan.

The Morning Banana Diet is pretty basic stuff. Two bananas at breakfast with water, and regular lunch, afternoon snack and dinner, with significant restrictions: no dairy products, no alcohol, and no desserts. And, you can't eat after 8 pm. No exercise required.

There are a number of theories on the role bananas might play in weight loss. Is it special enzymes? Role of increased fiber? And on and on...

Let's just all wake up from our banana fantasy, and calculate how many calories each of us would eliminate from our daily calorie total if we cut out the dairy products we love (milk, cream, butter), the beer, wine and evening cocktail we love, and the dessert treats we love?

Well, certainly enough to lose weight indefinately if we maintained our discipline. How long is that going to last? Is the Morning Banana Diet any different than any calorie restriction/portion control diet? Not really. It's just a kitchy fad diet where you are sure to fall off the bandwagon and gain the temporary weight loss back.
