The Perfect Fit Diet Review

Dr. Lisa Sanders is an internist whose work with patients battling weight and obesity issues inspired this book. What Sanders - an M.D. - learned is that her patients all seemed to be repeat, unsuccessful dieters on the most popular, well known and gimmicky diets around. What she gleaned from that information is the simple premise that no one diet fits all - we are all different physiologically, emotionally, etc. - so our weight loss programs need to be personally tailored to our medical histories, lifestyles, psychology and food preferences.

As you might expect, personally tailoring a weight loss program to yourself takes some leg work. You need to get cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked. For a full week before you begin the diet, you need to carefully document your food intake and exercise - every little detail in a diary, so you have a written record of your typical habits to work from. For the food you need to note the time of day, where you were, how hungry you were, what you chose and why you chose it. For the exercise - you need to note even when you've gone up or down the stairs. (Or skipped the stairs.) This self-examination is not fun, but it is enlightening. Knowledge is power, as they say, and if you're serious about changing your behaviors for the long term, you need to be honest with yourself about what they are. Once you've gotten together your records, so to speak, you'll take Sanders' "Perfect Fit Questionnaire", a hefty 43 pages of multiple choice questions ranging from family history to food preferences to eating and exercise habits. The results of the questionnaire will classify whether you - as a dieter - need to be primarily watching your carbs, fat or calories. You will then be put into one of three diet plan categories: carbohydrate counter, fat counter or calorie counter.

The three diet plans are different nutritionally, obviously, but break down to about 1200-1350 calories per day. Guidance and advice specific to each diet plan is also provided. Regular exercise is required. Other than that, there are not a whole lot of rules here. That's because the mission of Perfect Fit Diet is for you, not Sanders, to teach yourself what works best for you - because you know you best.

Will you lose weight on Perfect Fit Diet? Yes. 1200-1350 calories a day is extremely low, and combined with regular exercise is unsustainable for the long term - which, of course, is where the behavior modification comes in. You can up that calorie count yet keep the weight off and never have to "diet" again if you make good, healthy food choices and combine it with regular exercise. And it's through the detailed record-keeping and results of the Perfect Fit Questionnaire that Sanders hopes you'll be able to put - and keep - those pieces in place - making you the architect of your success.
