Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist, originally created his diet for anti-aging, but discovered that it also resulted in weight loss for his patients. The Perricone Face Lift Diet is a moderate to low-carbohydrate, fish-focused food diet with anti-oxidant and omega-3-rich whole foods. Processed and high-sugar foods are to be avoided. The diet is not concerned with calories or serving size. The regimen specifies a strict 14-day plan for meals, snacks, and nutritional supplements which include fish oil (between 3,000 to 9,000 mg per day), alpha lipoic acid, Coenzyme Q10, carnitine, glutamine, and lots of amino acids. Perricone suggests that these supplements increase energy levels, suppress appetite, and provide healthy anti-oxidants. These supplements aren't cheap.
Exercise is encouraged with thirty minutes per day, five days a week. Intensity level and time should be increased gradually. You should also incorporate stretching, strength training, endurance, and hydration.
Commentary: The Perricone Diet is far too restrictive to be followed in the long-term and the supplements are expensive. The bottom line is very few people succeed at restrictive diets and even fewer last on dietary supplements. There is some good advice here on eating healthier foods, fish, anti-oxident rich foods, whole grains and the recommendation of more vigorous exercise is excellent. If you are willing to eat healthier and exercise you are already on the path to long-term succeed. Do that, and realize, you're new strategy has to be a permanent lifestyle change.
