Puralin is a "homeopathic" diet pill brought to you by Apothecus Pharmaceutical Co., manufacturer of products as diverse as decongestants and pregnancy tests. "Homeopathic" means that the the pill is made from natural compounds, and does not contain herbs (like bitter orange, willow bark, etc.) common to "herbal" diet pills. The difference between homeopathic and herbal is that generally speaking, homeopathic ingredients have no side effects and pose no medical risk to users, where herbals are often associated with increased heart rate, compromised liver function, etc. One of the better known homeopathic ingredients of Puralin is Chitosan, a by-product of the the shells of shellfish. Chitosan is widely hyped as a weight loss aid, with claims that it binds fat in the stomach to prevent it from being digested and absorbed. Outside the hype, there is no scientific evidence to support any claims to Chitosan's weight loss effectiveness.
A purchase of Puralin is accompanied by a detailed diet plan that outlines meals restricting calories and portion sizes, with instructions that you need to use both for maximum effectiveness. The manufacturer suggests this because Puralin is said to work "over time", and the recommendation is that you stick to this program for 60 days or longer. This begs the question: if you are restricting calories and portion sizes for 60 days or longer, why do you need to spend money on Puralin?
You don't. Puralin's marketing focuses mainly on its safety and lack of typical diet pill side effects, not its effectiveness at helping you shed the pounds. It claims to be a powerful appetite suppressor, but besides the unfounded hype surrounding Chitosan, little information is available about Puralin and no science exists to back its claims. One word: Placebo.
Note: there is a decongestant tablet on the market with the identical name from the same manufacturer which - to be frank - is rather puzzling and I suppose could cause a medical problem if one were to inadvertently confuse the two.
