The "Reader's Digest Diet", also called the "Change One Diet", is an online weight loss plan that focuses on portion control. It asks the dieter to make one small change in your lifestyle per week. The program does not dwell upon the battle between carbs and fat and there are few restrictions on what you can eat. You are asked to keep a journal of everything you eat in order to remind you of your good and bad habits. Moderate exercise is required on the program and support is provided by Change One's online community of members. The cost of program starts at $45/3 months or you can join for a longer term at a discount.

The one big negative with portion control diets such as this and Weight Watchers points plan, is that they allow smaller portions of potentially unhealthy food in favor of short term goals. This often leads individuals to crashing and burning on their diet when their initial burst of motivation wears off. A better and more lasting strategy is a comprehensive focus on eating healthier. Like everyone else, Change One uses soft words in regards to exercise, such as "moderate" but I assume they mean regular and fairly rigorous, which is the one trait in common with virtually everyone who has lost weight and kept it off for good.

However, The Reader's Digest Diet remains a breath of fresh air in this "carb" and diet pill crazed industry. Everyone in their heart of hearts knows that the only weight loss strategy that works in the long-term is decreased caloric intake and increased physical activity. Very few popular diets follow this common sense approach. Change One joins the other good guys in this industry (there are very few), eDiets, Weight Watchers, Bob Greene, etc... who are equally focused on helping people as they are in making a profit.
