The Special K Diet is another example of very effective marketing - a'la the Subway Diet - wherein the Kellogg's Company has taken a plain old, been around for years healthy cereal and made it sexy by spinning it as a weight loss miracle.

The Special K Diet boils down to eating cereal with skim milk for breakfast and lunch, and then a healthy dinner. This is drastic calorie reduction, and if you stick with it you will lose weight. If you exercise while you stick with it you'll lose even more weight. The thing to remember is that this is a short term option at best. Cereal has no protein, and as such is not the best hunger-buster to get you through the day. More importantly, cereal is probably impossible to live on for any length of time for the mere fact that it is....boring. Special K Diet will work to kickstart a weight loss program - or get you back on track if you've slipped big-time - but it is not a healthy or realistic lifestyle choice for the long term.
