Three Day Diet Review

The 3 Day Diet is a fad from way back in 1985, which is often incorrectly referred to as "The Cleveland Clinic Diet" though prestigious Cleveland Clinic vehemently and publicly disavows any connection to it. There is no book, website or other establishment to back up the "miracle" of the 3 Day Diet and its unique metabolic reaction which will lead to a 10 pound weight loss, lowered cholesterol and increased energy in three days. But via the internet, the legend continues.

The 3 Day Diet is a highly restrictive food plan which must be followed exactly to the letter if the 10 lb weight loss is to be achieved. There is no recommendation for exercise. 4 cups of water (or other no-calorie drink) per day are to complement the following diet:

The Menu:

Day 1

Breakfast- Coffee or tea, 1/2 grapefruit or fruit juice, 1 piece of toast with 1 tablespoon peanut butter
Lunch- Coffee or tea, 1/2 cup tuna, 1 piece toast
Dinner- 3 ounces lean meat or chicken, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, 1 apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream
Day 2

Breakfast- Coffee or tea, 1 egg, 1/2 banana, 1 piece toast
Lunch- 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna, 8 regular saltine crackers
Dinner- 2 beef franks, 1 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup regular ice cream
Day 3

Breakfast- Black coffee or tea, 5 regular saltine crackers, 1 ounce cheddar cheese, 1 apple
Lunch- Black coffee or tea, 1 boiled egg, 1 piece toast
Dinner- 1 cup tuna, 1 cup carrots, 1 cup cauliflower, 1 cup melon
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream.

You drink 4 cups of water or diet soda as well.

Sounds like fun. So after the three days you are to resume eating "normally" (there is no real definition of what that means) for four or five days, and then you resume the 3 Day Diet again. This is, plain and simple, a starvation diet. What "weight" is lost after 3 days is water weight, and you will be starving by Day 4 and you know what that means - when you start eating again the water weight will come back with possibly even more real weight with it. This plan does not address any real issues, or solve any real problems with weight loss and weight control for the long term. And the worst part - you will be really, really hungry for 3 days.
