Created by celebrity fitness trainer David Kirsch. The Ultimate New York Diet was used by supermodel Heidi Klum to lose weight for a Victoria's Secret fashion show after she had a baby. Kirsch claims that you can lose up to 14 pounds and 5 inches off your waist, and a significant percentage of body fat during the first two weeks. The plan has guidelines that follow the letters A through E. Each letter stands for foods and products you should be aware of. They are: Alcohol, Bread, (Starchy) Carbs, Dairy, Extra Sweets, Fruit and Fats. The plan is a low-carb high-protein approach and has three phases:
Phase 1. Two weeks. Don't eat alcohol, bread, starchy carbs, dairy, coffee, extra sweets, fruit and most fats. Do eat, nuts, chicken breast, mushrooms, egg whites, salmon, low-starch vegetables, and lots of whey protein. Calories: 800-1,000.
Phase 2. Two weeks. Phase 1 but adds one extra daily non-starchy carbohydrate serving . If you don't lose your goal weight in the two weeks, Kirsch recommends staying in this phase until you succeed. Calories: 900-1,000
Phase 3 (the "lifelong" phase). The "forbidden" foods from Phase 1 can be introduced in moderation. Supplements are recommended to boost weight loss and overall health. Its more likely they are promoted to fill in the nutritional gaps caused by eliminating most dairy, fruits and whole grains. Kirsch recommends a high fiber meal replacement powder as well.
The Ultimate New York Diet puts a strong emphasis on exercise for up to 45-90 minutes per day.
