The name Xenadrine probably sounds familiar to you, as it's been around a long time. The original formula contained ephedrine, but when that stimulant was pulled from the market due to health concerns, Xenadrine's manufacturer, like most manufacturers of ephedrine based supplements, went back into the lab to whip up a new formula. The reformulated Xenadrine, along with its sister products Xenadrine EFX and Xenadrine RFA, contain green tea, coca extract, yerba mate, pantothenic acid, guarana, white willow bark extract and ginger root. Sound like more of the same? It is. Just about every fat burner on the market is comprised of some or all of these ingredients. While most studies indicate that these ingredients are essentially worthless but harmless, it's important to note that the green tea and coca extract combine for a whopping amount of caffeine intake, so be aware of the associated side effects - jitters, sleeplessness, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure - of that. The manufacturer recommends supplementing these pills with a restricted diet and regular exercise for maximum effectiveness, which begs the age old question: will taking these pills in addition to diet and exercise accelerate my weight loss? They will, to the extent that the high level of caffeine will increase your resting heart rate - the same way that consuming massive amounts of coffee or tea would. If you choose to risk the side effects of elevated levels of caffeine - which should not be done without consulting a doctor first - coffee and tea are a lot cheaper.
FYI - It's also important to note that the makers of Xenadrine have had a fair bit of trouble with both the FDA and the Federal Trade Commission regarding the credibility of their claims to fantastic weight loss success. Or, as the FTC put it, “making false and unsubstantiated claims about the effectiveness of the product”. Additionally, the FTC alleged that the makers of Xenadrine paid people to endorse the product and to provide testimonials, when in fact those endosees' weight loss was not the result of taking Xenadrine, but rather more strict diet and exercise programs.
